Deepavali Message 2010

As Malaysian Hindus celebrate Deepavali this year, we have another opportunity to reflect on what this festival means and how the spirit of Deepavali, that is the triumph of light over darkness, is still relevant today.
As Malaysians know, our nation has emerged with solid growth prospect from a global slowdown as a result of all our combined efforts. We did not dwell on the darkness of the economic prospect because we knew it was within our power to help ourselves make light and achieve sustained and robust growth.
The same is true for individuals and families striving for success and facing the many challenges towards achieving their ambitions. In the spirit of Deepavali, we must not worry about darkness or failure because we can make our own light and succeed. In this regard, I also encourage the Hindu community to recognize their own success stories and be inspired by how the best and brightest persevered and achieve their ambitions.
The Government will continue to be by your side as you work towards success. We will celebrate your festivities with you and we will be there with you in your hour of need. The Government is working with many Indian groups to bring services and facilities direct to many Indian communities to help address issues and problems on the ground. I am confident we will find solutions if we persevere and continue to adopt a give-and-take attitude.
In the spirit of 1Malaysia, I am sure that the Hindu community along will other Malaysians will work together for the continued progress and success of the nation. This spirit of togetherness is clear for all to see as Malaysian open their doors and welcome each other into their homes to celebrate auspicious occasion, including Deepavali.
Let me wish a very Happy Deepavali to all Malaysians Hindus. I sincerely hope that you will be able to celebrate and share this special time with family and with friends of all races. As we celebrate Deepavali, our thought and prayer also go to the unfortunate and all who faces hardship at this time – especially the victims of recent flood who have lost much and whose live have been affected. Let us come together to lend a helping hand to all those who are currently facing great difficulties.
Happy Deepavali.
